Why does this matter?
Happy Election Day!
We are witnessing one of the most significant elections of our lifetime, and it’s a historic one.
As the founder of Black Women Amplified, a women’s empowerment company and platform, this moment is profoundly meaningful for me. My work is all about uplifting Black women’s voices and perspectives, so seeing the potential of a Black/Jamician/South Asian woman in the highest office fills me with pride and hope.
But for me, this is about more than history; it’s about power, purpose, and our vision for our lives. Behind the scenes since 2020, Black women have been mobilizing, organizing, and building the path to this moment. Platforms like mine, along with countless individuals and organizations, work tirelessly to redefine how the world sees us and how we see ourselves.
Why does this matter? Because we deserve access and opportunity just like everyone else. My father always used to say, “Some folks have friends in high places.” With Madame President Harris in the White House, we’ll finally have folks in places where it counts.
A business coach once told me that “business and politics don’t mix,” but let’s be real, business is political. Our leadership affects everything from healthcare to venture capital access. Over 300 VC firms have pledged their support to VP Harris, which could be game-changing for those looking to raise capital and build generational wealth.
As an entrepreneur, I know firsthand the challenges of securing healthcare, especially for those of us without a traditional employer. The Affordable Care Act has transformed healthcare access. And frankly, I want my reproductive rights restored, for me, for you, for all of us. This is about our rights and our bodies.
Kamala Harris understands the importance of small business, the reality of being a woman, and the experience of being part of a community that’s too often overlooked.
I urge you to vote, no matter who you support. But if you follow Black Women Amplified, you know my vote is for the future President Kamala Harris.
Today, as we make history, we’re choosing ourselves, our bodies, and our future. This won’t solve everything, but seeing our reflection in leadership shows us that we are doing everything we can to make tomorrow better.
In solidarity and love,
Monica Wisdom Tyson
