Hello Family,

How are you doing? I know we are strong and resilient, really, how are you doing? This was not the week I expected, but we know what we know.

I wanted to check in as we navigate through all the emotions this election season brings. As Black women, we’re so often the backbone, the warriors in our families and communities. We’ve been standing on the front lines, and naturally, this moment feels heavy.

We’re watching history unfold, but that also means we're bombarded with stress and scrutiny. As election messages fill our feeds, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. I've found myself glued to the news, correcting misinformation, and feeling a mix of anger, anxiety, and fatigue. This moment is deeply personal. It’s not just about who holds office—it’s about us, our families, and the future we envision.

But even as we hold space for our communities, it’s crucial to hold space for ourselves. The constant push to "stay strong" can take a toll, and we don’t have to carry the weight alone. Taking time to step back, breathe, and recharge isn’t just necessary—it’s revolutionary.

For me, journaling, meditation, and affirmations have been lifelines, grounding me when the world feels off-balance. Here are the three practices that keep me grounded, especially now:

  • Meditation: Taking 20 minutes to sit in silence, breathe, and center my mind has brought incredible calm, even in chaos. It’s my go-to practice for clearing away the noise.
  • Journaling: Writing down thoughts and emotions brings clarity and release. I call it “sacred writing”—a powerful way to process everything we’re holding onto.
  • Affirmations: Positive self-talk has changed the game. Simple “I am” statements are a reminder that I am safe, loved, and enough, even when the world feels overwhelming.
